Everyone seems to have strong personal opinions about the Gores, myself included. Full disclosure -- I’ve always liked him and never cared much for her. Hey, I campaigned for Al -- and still blame Tipper for the Parents Music Resource Council (which I was way too young to understand as a punk-rock preteen -- but like, censorship…boo!). Even if I loathed them both, I’d still be sad to hear that they were calling it quits. My (extremely) uneducated guess as to why? Retirement. I mean, how many couples do well with that much togetherness?
What I found most interesting about a post on The Wall Street Journal’s website were the comments. People objected to the assertion that a marriage that lasted 40 long years and “launched” both children and several successful careers could ever be called a failure. I get it. Even though I deeply believe that marriage is for life, I don’t think it’s fair to classify their separation as a failure. What do you guys think?
