I just read this article in The New York Times about couples who are breaking up, but not getting divorced. Though it was presented as a trend, many of the examples sited weren't exactly uber-current. I have heard of couples continuing to cohabitate post-split due to financial hardship, which I totally get. But this is something different. These couples separate, live in different households, but opt not to make it legal. To me it stinks of complete and total apathy, which is somehow sadder than hate. At least with divorce there's some level of feeling (even if it's all spit and venom). With this it's like, "Eh...whatever." It's way too "I give up on life" for my taste. I'll bet most of you guys think I'm nuts. But surely some of you understand where I'm coming from? Anyone?
