With representatives from both the German Technical Inspection Agency and Guinness World Records on hand in Germany, Bugatti driver Pierre Henri Raphanel piloted the Bugatti 16.4 Super Sport to an average speed of 268 mph, claiming the new land-speed world record for production cars. The 16.4 Veyron Super Sport boasts an incredible 1,200 horsepower from its 16-cylinder engine, a full 199 horses more than the model that launched in 2005.
The first five 16.4 Super Sports to be produced will be known as The World Record edition and will feature the same configuration and color scheme as the record-setting model. Amazingly, given that the price tag for the car is well in excess of a million dollars, all five have already been sold.
