The so-called "millennial" generation is expecting, and the auto industry is betting they're going to want minivans to move their brood. The staid family hauler suffered a decline with the rise of the SUV, leaving several years during which only Toyota, Honda and Chrysler produced them. Now? Ford and Nissan, and possibly GM, will be bringing new swagger wagons to the market to cater to the 67 million-strong demographic now approaching its prime child-rearing years from the 30s to 40s.
The millennials are the second-largest generation in U.S. history, following only their parents, the baby boomer generation. Some are calling the potential for a flood of new kids "Baby Boom 2.0."
Ford plans to unveil a production version of its C-Max concept vehicle, while Nissan will create a new version of its Quest minivan. GM has yet to announce specific plans.
