The upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans looms large in the minds of sport car racing fans -- and for fans America's iconic performance brand, the Chevy Corvette, this year's contest has added significance: The endurance race on June 12 and 13 will mark 50 years of Corvette at Le Mans. To celebrate the accomplishments of legendary Corvette racers such as John Fitch, Dick Thompson and Bob Bondurant, Chevrolet will host a celebratory gathering centered on tomorrow's American Le Mans Series Monterey race at the legendary Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca -- a tune-up for the Le Mans race across pond next month.
Moreover, Corvette has created a one-off, Le Mans-inspired Z06 Corvette, with the iconic blue-racing-stripes-on-white color scheme and the "3" badge worn by the original Corvette 50 years ago.
Tomorrow's six-hour race begins at 2:30 p.m. PDT, and will be televised next week by CBS Sports at 10:30 a.m. PDT. If you want to catch the race live, it will be streamed online at americanlemans.com starting at 2:30 p.m. PDT. Live radio coverage will be available on American Le Mans Radio, Sirius Channel 127 and XM Channel 242.
