More news from the pony wars (redux): General Motors announced today that the 2010 Chevy Camaro is the best-selling sports car for the first full year of sales, posting almost 100,000 sales (in fact, 99,872) worldwide in the vehicle's first calendar year on the market. That "worldwide" tag for sales is a bit misleading in that even though about 1,000 have been sold overseas, official export has yet to begin. Obviously, GM expects an even more significant sales bump when it officially introduces the Camaro to Chevy's largest overseas markets, such as Brazil, China, Russia and Europe.
Say what you want about any of the big three ponies -- and I'm sure the purists and brand loyalists will do just that -- but the Camaro to my mind is the most striking of the new breed, at least when comparing the base models. The car has knocks against it, of course -- the paperback-sized and ill-positioned rear window being a significant example -- but as far as head-turning and ear-perking power, the Camaro got it right on the first try and then some.
