The list also does a good job on variety. It's not packed wall-to-wall with the diesel hatchbacks we've come to expect not to expect stateside. (Of course, the list has its fair share of those, too.) And what's the worst, somehow, are the standout vehicles that we used to have the option to buy, which now -- thanks to stunning lack of success -- have been yanked from our shores. VW Phaeton or Pontiac G8 GXP, anyone?

Audi A1 (I'm still confused by Audi's choice not to bring this to the U.S. -- it's a legitimate contender to become a MINI-killer. Audi doesn't want that?)

Fiat 500 Abarth SS (Yes, we'll be getting the 500 here soon -- but whether we'll get the tuner version is the real question.)
Ford Focus RS (Ditto the Focus: The Euro-spec version is forthcoming; the supercharged version, unfortunately, is not.)
Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst S (We had it as the Pontiac G8 GXP; not only did we lose the model, we lost the whole badge.)
Land Rover Defender

Peugeot RCZ (The whole article is worth it just to see this car. Stunning.)

Toyota Century (I had no idea Toyota made something like this. Huh.)
