Chrysler is recalling about 25,000 Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass vehicles due to -- take a guess -- sticky accelerator pedals. There seem to be a lot of those going around. According to The New York Times "Wheels" blog:
"Chrysler said the problem involved 'pivot bushings in vehicles with oversize accelerator pedal bearing pockets.' The problem occurs if the bushing becomes dislodged."
The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the problem did not pose a safety risk, however, because the vehicles are equipped with a brake override system, which favors the brake should both it and the accelerator be applied simultaneously.
Both these brake pedals and the ones on the approximately 2.3 million Toyota vehicles recalled for the same issue were made by the same company -- CTS Corp., based in Elkhart, Ind. CTS asserts that Toyota's unintended-acceleration issues were not its fault.
