The LA Times has a funny piece on the new movie “Date Night”’ with Tina Fey and Steve Carell. Both stars (married, with kids and busy careers) say that scenes in the film ring true. In the interview, Fey describes Carell’s character trying to negotiate sex on a weeknight. She says her character is open to the idea in theory -- but still wants to sleep. Yep -- that sounds familiar.
When I was single, date night was right up there with buying a beige minivan and growing a beer gut on my list of lame, married guy things I never wanted to do. It was like everything that’s wrong with Valentine’s Day (no room for spontaneity, created by marketing drones, yada, yada, yada) had just been rolled out to become a weekly occurrence. But then I got involved with Holly and I realized…I like all that stuff. I like going out for a nice meal. I like candlelight. I like agreeing not to answer our cell phones for a few friggin’ hours. And oh yeah -- I like having sex (though truth be told, it rarely happens on a week night).
How do other men feel about date night?
