A mere several days after announcing recalls due to sticky accelerator pedals, Chrysler is once again putting its hand up for call backs. This time, the problem with about 285,000 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans (2008 and 2009 model years) is faulty wiring. From The New York Times "Wheels" blog: "Chrysler told [the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration] on June 1 that 'an improperly routed wiring harness' can be rubbed by a sliding door. That would wear through the insulation and possibly cause a fire inside the door. Chrysler said it has 57 reports of vehicles having 'thermal damage' but knows of no accidents or injuries."
Simultaneously, 285,000 2007-20010 Jeep Wranglers are being recalled because the front fender liners could rub against brake lines and cause a leak. That leak could cause a partial loss of brakes, according to the manufacturer, though thus far no injuries have been reported.
Looks like we're still enjoying the Toyota-induced hypersensitivity to safety issues and the bad press that can result.
