The wraps are coming off a new iteration of the Volkswagen Jetta that is larger and more athletic than its predecessor -- and for less money, at that. The 2011 Jetta is as wide as and as tall as its 2010 sibling, but adds 3.5 inches to its wheelbase (for a total of 182.7 inches); that extra length means the new Jetta boasts more than 38 inches of legroom.
As for price, VW has said in a bare-bones statement about the car that the Jetta will have a base price of $16,000 -- down from $18,300 for a current-generation Jetta S (which includes destination charges).
According to Automotive News:
"Four engines will be available on the Jetta, including the 2.0-liter turbodiesel direct-injection powerplant already offered on the new-generation Jetta station wagon that went on sale last fall. A manual transmission is standard, but the 2.0-liter diesel and gasoline versions will get a 6-speed double-clutch transmission that VW calls DSG."
Volkswagen will also offer four different trim levels, including a 2.0-liter GLI.
