For the 10th straight year, the world's favorite car color is not a true color at all. Silver is the most popular car color worldwide, along with gray and charcoal, and is especially popular in North America, where grays make up a full 31 percent of all new cars and truck sales. Tied for second place are black and white, at 18 percent each.
The palette swings abruptly from Ansel Adams to Picasso's periods in reverse: Third place goes to red, with 11 percent; blue follows up with 10 percent. In last place, with 4 percent, was green, while "natural tones" -- brown, tan, golds, orange and yellow -- took fourth place with 8 percent.
The study was conducted by Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries, the world's largest maker of car and truck paint.
PPG will have 66 new exterior shades and five new interior shades for 2013-2014 vehicles. According to the Detroit Free Press, these include: "Denim (sparkly version of classic true blue), Cognac (rich coppery warm brown with an iridescent highlight), Silky Silver (liquid-looking with a slight bronze cast), Moonshine Blue (pale silvery blue) and Wicked (what's being touted as 'sinister' green)."
Anybody want to chime in with favorite colors? Mine's navy blue.
