Want to win $100,000 and score a few weeks of free seat time in Ford's upcoming 2012 Focus? Armed with lessons learned about social media from its successful Fiesta Movement, the automaker is teaming with the producers of hit TV show "The Amazing Race" to launch an interactive reality program called "Focus Rally: America." It will offer contestants the chance to win a $100,000 grand prize, but there's a bonus: Play along at home, and you could win a brand-new '12 Focus. The first show of its kind, "Focus Rally" won't be broadcast through traditional outlets. It will stream on Hulu over five weeks, with a combination of both short- and long-form episodes being posted five times a week. Competitors -- six teams of two people, all selected through an upcoming nationwide casting call -- will drive a fleet of new Focuses across the country, competing in challenges and generally attempting to outwit, outlast and outbehavefoolishly the other entrants. In a clever bit of product placement, the challenges will require use of Ford's interactive in-car systems, including MyFord Touch, Sync and GPS navigation.
Interested? If you want to be a contestant, the requirements are pretty simple. According to Ford marketing director Matt VanDyke, the company is "looking for people who want to have a once-in-a-lifetime cross-country adventure ... we want people who are highly connected through social media and have a built-in group of fans and supporters. They also need to have a big personality and be entertaining on camera." In addition to being attention-hungry, contestants will also be required to generate behind-the-scenes content for YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Fans and supporters of the contestants and show will also be eligible to win one of 10 new Focuses.
The first "Focus Rally: America" audition takes place Oct. 16 in New York City. More information can be found at FocusRally.com.
