Images of the new Saab 9-4X have been revealed by the Swedish automaker ahead of the vehicle's debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The vehicle resembles the 9-4X BioPower concept shown in Detroit in 2008. The 5-passenger crossover was developed under GM ownership and shares many underpinnings with the Cadillac SRX. Both vehicles offer the same powertrain options: a 3.0-liter 265-horsepower V6 and a turbocharged 2.8-liter 300-horsepower V6. Both will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Standard amenities include a Bose surround-sound stereo system, 8-inch navigation screen and individual climate controls for the rear seats. Upgrades include 8-inch screens embedded in the front headrests, and driver-selected Sport, Comfort and Eco ride modes, along with adaptive suspension, for the Aero trim.
As Consumer Reports notes, some knocks against the otherwise well-received Caddy SRX could carry over to the new 9-4X. CR was "critical of the fuel economy, visibility, suspension noise and engine performance from the 3.0-liter V6 in the SRX."
Regardless, it's a good-looking vehicle, especially for fans of the updated Saab design language seen in the new 9-5. Now we're even more excited to see how new designer Jason Castriota, formerly of Stile Bertone and Pininfarina, reimagines the 9-3.
