Do you ever look at an aggressive, careless or just plain clueless motorist in the next lane and think to yourself, "Man, that person has no idea what to do behind the wheel"? Turns out, according to GMAC Insurance's annual National Drivers Test, there's a one in five chance that you're exactly right. Scary as it sounds, the survey -- in the form of a test composed of 20 questions selected from various department of motor vehicles exams administered to more than 5,200 drivers -- proved that a full 20 percent of licensed drivers wouldn't pass a written driver's test.
As far as results go, Kansas ranks as the state with the highest scores (82.3 percent correct) and New York the state with the lowest, at 70 percent. This actually to an overall trend, with Midwest states coming in the highest and the Northeast the lowest. (And while I grew up in Massachusetts and lived in New York for 11 years, I took the test and scored 80 percent, thank you very much.) Men also outscored women, with older men -- age 45 and up -- scoring the highest overall.
How good are you? Take the test here, and, if you've a mind to, post your scores in the comments section. No cheating, or lying about your scores!
